Our contributors have competed and performed on some of skating's grandest stages. They have taught US Figure Skating Gold Medalists in all disciplines and competitors at the senior level of the sport in addition to teaching skating skills to elite youth hockey players.
David's passion for intensive, detail-oriented training is the driving force behind the The Skating Collaborative. As a skater, David was the 2007 Swiss National Champion in ice dance and reached the final segment of the European Championships the same year. A member of Switzerland's National Team from 2006-2009, he was ranked in the top 100 in the ISU World Rankings with two different ice dance partners. He trained at elite centers in the United States, Canada, France and Germany under the coaches of World and Olympic Champions.
David has 15 years of experience teaching skating. His students include USFS Gold Medalists and competitors at the senior-level of collegiate competition and the championship level of the US Adult Figure Skating Championships.
David holds an MA in Sustainable Peace through Sport from United Nations-mandated University for Peace and the International University of Monaco and a BA in Liberal Studies from Thomas Edison University. He has worked extensively in the non-profit sector to promote positive youth development through sport and was a guest contributor to the Common Purpose Global Leadership Experience (GLE) at Harvard University from 2015-2017.
David teaches skating skills, freestyle, ice dance and choreography to skaters of all ages and abilities.
At her core, Téa is an interdisciplinary artist; one that has made a steadfast commitment to bridging the artistic and the technical with dexterity, passion, and fluidity. Téa is a USFS Gold Medalist in Freestyle, Ice Dance and Moves in the Field. She currently trains under Suna Murray and Brad Vigorito at the Skating Club of Boston, as well as David DeFazio in New York’s Capital Region.
Téa holds a BM in Classical Saxophone Performance, a BM in Recording Arts and Sciences, and an MA in Audio Sciences: Acoustics from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. She currently serves as an assistant audio engineer for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and WGBH Music, in addition to other freelance work. Téa’s favorite job, however, is helping to achieve the artistic visions of skaters and coaches through music editing, tailoring each composition to the skaters needs and desires. Mervin is a skating professional of global acclaim. He is the 2012 World Bronze Medalist, a 2012 World Team Trophy Gold Medalist, the 2010 World Junior Silver Medalist, the 2010 Junior Grand Prix Final Champion and a 4-time Japanese National Champion in pairs skating. The winner of 23 national and international medals, Mervin still performs in the sport's highest circles.
Mervin is also a teaching professional with a decade of experience. He is former Learn to Skate Director at Sport-O-Rama in Rockland County, NY and current Having himself trained under the coaches of World and Olympic Champions, Mervin is the creator of the S.M.A.R.T. Skate small group training program used by The Skating Collaborative. Mervin is bilingual in French/English and studied mechanical engineering at McGill University.
Mervin is available virtually for video jump analysis and sport-specific periodization (season planning).
Donna is the grande dame of The Skating Collaborative and she brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the team.
Herself a USFS Gold Medalist in freestyle and figures, she has been the coach of numerous USFS Gold Medalists in those disciplines as well as moves in the field. Competitively, she has coached multiple USFS regional championship medalists and sectional championship competitors in freestyle, including at the senior level. Indicative of Donna's ability to instill strong fundamentals, several Donna's former students have gone on to become teaching professionals themselves.
Donna's education in the sport is deep and includes learning from Olympians and Olympic and PSA Master-Rated coaches in the USA and Canada. She was trained by Olympians and Olympic Coaches in the United States and Canada. Donna holds a BS in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Economics from Russell Sage College.
Donna teaches skating skills, freestyle and choreography to skaters of all ages and abilities.
